Enkele maanden terug was je nog samen met enkele andere GRS vrienden aan boord van mijn zeilschip ENDLICH om er een prachtige zeildag van te maken. Wie had toen durven denken dat jij er vandaag niet meer bij zou zijn. Je energie en gedrevenheid waren voor ons allen een voorbeeld. Reeds in de 60-tiger jaren roeiden wij op dezelfde wedstrijden en toen al had ik heel wat respect voor jou. Het was steeds een leerrijk gevoel, mee te kunnen fietsen wanneer jij met je ploegmakkers aan het boatracen was. Wij waren een generatie van “er voluit tegenaan gaan en nie plooie” Maar zelfs de sterkste roeiers moeten ooit eens ervaren dat ze toch eens moeten plooien. Deze dag heb jij nu meegemaakt Johan en voor ons is dit enkel een teken dat we iedere dag met beide handen moeten vastnemen, zoals onze riem en die volop beleven. Hoe langer we die riem in het water kunnen houden hoe beter…
Je gedrevenheid uitte zich in het roeien, die een echte “fil rouge” door je leven was. Deze gedrevenheid was er zeker nodig toen je in de woelige jaren van de Vlaamse roeisport, mede aan de wieg stond van de oprichting van de GRS….toen een donderslag bij klaarlichte dag. Maar je wilskracht en je ploeggeest om die club groter en sterker te willen maken, bleef maar aangroeien en werd soms aanstekelijk voor anderen die ook de smaak te pakken kregen.
Roeien was voor jou als voor onze generatiegenoten, “a way of living” Deze way is nu onderbroken en moeten wij het stellen met herinneringen. Velen zullen je missen Johan en velen zullen maar al te graag terugdenken aan de mooie dagen in de roeisport.
Het was een eer Johan, om samen met jou op de roeibanen geroeid te hebben en vooral om veel van jou geleerd te hebben.

Jammer dat er met geen woord gerept wordt over de overwinningen van de 2-JW (Eline Van Loke en Marieke Verduystert) en 2-JM (Keanu Vandendriessche en Lukas Lambregt). Volgens mij toch meer dan de moeite waard om eens te vermelden...
En niets over de opmerkelijke prestaties van de 2X en 2- van NZL??
Beste Johan,
Enkele maanden terug was je nog samen met enkele andere GRS vrienden aan boord van mijn zeilschip ENDLICH om er een prachtige zeildag van te maken. Wie had toen durven denken dat jij er vandaag niet meer bij zou zijn. Je energie en gedrevenheid waren voor ons allen een voorbeeld. Reeds in de 60-tiger jaren roeiden wij op dezelfde wedstrijden en toen al had ik heel wat respect voor jou. Het was steeds een leerrijk gevoel, mee te kunnen fietsen wanneer jij met je ploegmakkers aan het boatracen was. Wij waren een generatie van “er voluit tegenaan gaan en nie plooie” Maar zelfs de sterkste roeiers moeten ooit eens ervaren dat ze toch eens moeten plooien. Deze dag heb jij nu meegemaakt Johan en voor ons is dit enkel een teken dat we iedere dag met beide handen moeten vastnemen, zoals onze riem en die volop beleven. Hoe langer we die riem in het water kunnen houden hoe beter…
Je gedrevenheid uitte zich in het roeien, die een echte “fil rouge” door je leven was. Deze gedrevenheid was er zeker nodig toen je in de woelige jaren van de Vlaamse roeisport, mede aan de wieg stond van de oprichting van de GRS….toen een donderslag bij klaarlichte dag. Maar je wilskracht en je ploeggeest om die club groter en sterker te willen maken, bleef maar aangroeien en werd soms aanstekelijk voor anderen die ook de smaak te pakken kregen.
Roeien was voor jou als voor onze generatiegenoten, “a way of living” Deze way is nu onderbroken en moeten wij het stellen met herinneringen. Velen zullen je missen Johan en velen zullen maar al te graag terugdenken aan de mooie dagen in de roeisport.
Het was een eer Johan, om samen met jou op de roeibanen geroeid te hebben en vooral om veel van jou geleerd te hebben.
Het ga je nu goed roei-en zeilmakker en als je toekomt in het land van de “waterminnende mensen” draai je dan nog eens om en zie of wij het goed doen…
